Pure Health is here to help!

(Happy Dance Time)

According to the Chronic Pain Association of Canada, approximately 2 million Canadians suffer from Chronic Pain.

Chronic pain is one of many causes that bring patients into Pure Health Clinic. People are looking for help reducing their pain levels but what they sometimes aren't aware of is the emotional connection to chronic pain.

During the Initial Intake with a patient, I will ask the standard questions but also dive deeper into finding out if there were any big changes, experiences, life events that happened around the time they started feeling symptoms.

Making this emotional connection helps me understand where they may be suffering from energy blockages in their body and which points I can use to help treat their pain as well as their emotional trauma.

As each patient is different, each symptom is unique to them, sometimes I will use the cups to help treat the physical symptoms and acupuncture for energy alignment.

The most common types of chronic pain that I've seen at Pure Health are:

  • Low Back Pain

  • Headaches/Migraines

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Cancer Pain

Low Back Pain

Chronic back pain is defined as pain that continues for 12 weeks or longer, even after an initial injury or underlying cause of acute low back pain has been treated. About 20 percent of people affected by acute low back pain develop chronic low back pain with persistent symptoms at one year.

Acupuncture can help relieve the tension in the muscles by needling specific points in the back. At Pure Health Clinic, I focus on the whole body and mind so I will treat specific areas of concern but also other areas of the body that are connected to your back through the energy lines, called meridian lines, in your body.

Many patients have been surprisingly shocked when I treat a point in their foot and they feel it in another part of their body. It's very rewarding to watch patients learn how to reconnect with their whole body and learn to listen to what it is trying to tell them instead of focusing on just the one area that is screaming the loudest at them.

Headaches/Migraines

Chronic migraine has been defined by having at least 15 headache days a month, and at least 8 days of having headaches with migraine features, for more than 3 months.

One of the causes of Migraines is having a history of severe emotional (stressful life events) or physical trauma. The reason I chose to highlight this cause from the rest is that so many people quickly dismiss or overlook emotional trauma and I am really passionate about bringing that connection of emotional to physical pain to light.

I want all patients that enter Pure Health Clinic to feel safe and secure enough to share their emotional stories because sharing them is the first step to allowing yourself to heal and it gives me the insight I need to create the correct treatment plan your body needs to start healing emotionally and physically.

Fibromyalgia

As stated on the Mayo Clinic's website, Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and nonpainful signals.

Acupuncture helps treat the symptoms of Fibromyalgia by releasing energy blockages that are restricting constant energy flow throughout your body. When we help open your energy flow it can help reduce stress, promote healthy sleep and relax your body.

Cancer Pain

The Canadian Cancer Society states that pain is a common side effect of cancer and its treatments, but having cancer doesn’t mean you have to live with pain.

It’s important to manage pain related to cancer because it can affect you physically and emotionally. It can affect healing and cause fatigue, loss of appetite and problems sleeping. Dealing with pain also takes the energy that you need to get better and to carry out normal daily activities.

Therefore, Acupuncture can help with:

  • Nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy

  • Xerostomia (Dry Mouth) related to radiation therapy

  • Hot flashes related to hormone treatment

  • Joint pain related to aromatase inhibitor therapy

  • Physical pain

  • Loss of appetite

  • Fatigue

  • Insomnia

  • Anxiety and Depression

However, there are key areas of caution for some patients so it is very important that I receive all your medical history before we start treatments.
